Westminster Faith Exchange Art Competition
All three of Bloomsbury's entrants, Rejoice
and Nyaueth Riam and Jalisa Gumbs, were prize winners in the
local community art competition.
The task: to paint or draw what
prayer means to me

Rejoice’s painting: Third prize
Title: Everyone matters
Accompanying explanation:
Prayer means people praying calmly and children playing with
ropes nicely and everyone matters to God.
Judge’s comment: A direct and joyful
response has been turned into an uplifting image

Nyaueth’s painting: Highly commended
Title: What a journey?
Accompanying explanation
Prayer brings you closer to God. My picture relates to prayer
by the journey to God.
The road. It shows how you step each step nearer to God but
the clouds symbolise how it can be wet of the journey and
slippery steps which can be hard but can still keep going.
Sun symbolises you have support and the brightness will lead
you the way. Bricks show that it can be bumpy and you may
want to stop but you can’t. Praying make you want to
keep going because God’s with me and he answers me and
sometimes doesn’t because he knows it’s not the
right time. The top of the painting is that you have completed
that path.
Judge’s comment: A strong and intelligent
response to the question produced a powerful direct image.

Jalisa’s painting: Highly commended
Title: Please God help me
Accompanying explanation
I came home after school. I felt upset. I went upstairs in
my room. I started crying. I wanted to talk to God and I started
to pray about how I felt and God talked back to me. He said
I will always be next to you.
Judge’s comment: A personal
story well used to explain an emotional answer to the question.

Jalisa and Nyaueth pose for a photogarph
with the Mayor of Westminster who presented certificates and
prizes to the winners.
