A year of intercessions
Our minister, Simon Perry, has written a
series of intercessions for use during the church year.
Beyond Ourselves
Loving God, Father Son and Holy Spirit, we
praise you because of your commitment to us. For loving the
world so much you sent your Son; for coming into this world
and getting your hands dirty with the human race; for being
present to us today. For a love that lies beyond our understanding,
we want to thank you, and ask that you would make us channels
of that love to the world around.
We think of those who suffer beyond
the reach of the news headlines, and whom we know of only
as statistics. Open our ears, that we may hear your voice
in them and respond with compassion.
We think of those whose agony lies beyond the far side of
our television screens, for whom our compassion has dried
up. Open our eyes that we may see the world you love as it
really is, and make us a people who love the world as you
do.
We think of those who inhabit cultures beyond our comprehension.
Open our hearts that we may be ready to encounter you in the
stranger.
We think of those who live beyond the front door of our church
and our comfortable community. Open our doors that the Good
News of Jesus Christ might flood into this world even through
us.
