A year of intercessions

Our minister, Simon Perry, has written a series of intercessions for use during the church year.

The Word of God

We worship you as the God who speaks.
We worship you as the one who disturbs the comfortable and comforts the disturbed.
And we worship you as the people with a call to speak your word.

So Lord, teach us to listen to you so that we might have something to say.
Teach us to listen to you in familiar Scriptures, in close friends, and in times of quiet reflection.
Teach us also to hear your voice in those we dislike, those with whom we profoundly disagree, those from whom we would rather turn our faces.
Teach us to listen to you that we may truly be your ambassadors, your prophets, your people.

Speak to us we pray, that our lives may become a living word from you.
When we see lives broken by relational or physical violence, may our words and our action bring comfort and peace to victims and discomfort and disruption to those who commit violence.
When we see lives broken by hunger and economic unfairness, may our words and our actions bring satisfaction and justice for those who hunger and thirst, and may they bring discomfort and disruption for the greedy.
When we see lives affected by ecological injustice, may our words and our action bring hope for those in places like Indonesia who suffer the loss of their lands to developers of new fuels, and may they bring discomfort and disruption to those who exploit people and land, and to those who are apathetic about the effects of their lifestyle.

Lord, may your word be alive and active in our world, and make us humble enough for your living word to speak through our lips and our lives.
