A year of intercessions
Our minister, Simon Perry, has written a
series of intercessions for use during the church year.
Celebrating Sabbath
Lord God of all creation, teach us to celebrate
Sabbath. On this day, may our lives and the life of the world
be transformed by your purposes.
As we climb our property ladders, as we pursue our careers,
as we rush through our lives, teach us to stop, and know that
you are God.
As we update our wardrobes, as we upgrade our technology,
as we try to keep up with the joneses, teach us to stop, and
know that you are God.
As we open our purses, as we handover our credit cards, as
we order online, teach us to stop, and know that you are God.
By your grace, may we not be shaped by the
world that squeezes us into its mould. Instead, as we stop
to celebrate your goodness and your purposes for us, may the
world around us be changed.
When peoples are deprived of justice, when
the environment is scarred by greed, when nations budget for
war, show us how to respond.
When the hungry cry for food, when the lonely long for company,
when the abused seek for love, show us how to respond.
When earthquake brings devastation, when failed crops bring
famine, when floods bring untold suffering, show us how to
respond.
Loving God, as we seek to stop and
conform our lives to your will, may our worship have a healing
effect on the world at large. May your loving kindness flow
through your transformed people so as to transform the world.
Lord God, teach us how to celebrate Sabbath, that we may know,
and that the world may know, that you are God.
