A year of intercessions
Our minister, Simon Perry, has written a
series of intercessions for use during the church year.
Flood Victims
Loving God, we thank you for all the comforts
with which you have blessed us, and which we too easily take
for granted. We thank you for warm homes, for clean water,
for our ability to care for ourselves.
And yet in these floods we see these luxuries
snatched away. Situations that we expect only to see in distant
lands, overtake us here as people await rescue, queue for
fresh water and seek refuge.
For those who have been displaced from their
homes, who have had no water to drink, and who must live in
discomfort, we pray there would be a new experience of your
loving presence. For all those who must endure this chaos
and learn to be dependent upon the help of others, we pray
for a speedy return to healthy routines.
We thank you for members of our emergency
services and for the availability of supplies that prevent
such major disruption from becoming a human catastrophe. And
we pray that all in our country will be moved with compassion,
to feel afresh the suffering that is witnessed in places where
there is little help at hand, and where the consequences of
such disaster reach far into the future.
Help us to be the people of God in
a world where suffering and disaster will always take their
toll. And may we realise afresh how delicate our lives are,
how dependant we are upon you, and how gracious you are to
us.
