A year of intercessions

Our minister, Simon Perry, has written a series of intercessions for use during the church year.

The World Outside

Lord, open our eyes to the world outside our windows.
Forgive us for always wanting to keep the outside world, outside.

Open our eyes to the beauty of the seasons, to your handiwork in the patterns of the sky, the colours of the blossom, the reflections in the puddles.

Open our eyes to the needs on our doorstep, to the people for whom we could make such a great difference with such little effort. Open our eyes to see your face in those to whom we would rather turn a blind eye.

Open our eyes to those who we hear about but rarely see. To mothers who starve themselves to try to feed their hungry children. To children who make a dangerous living in open mines or rubbish tips. To young women sold into slavery and trafficked from country to country. To men who have tried and failed to keep their families warm and safe and fed.

Beyond our home comforts, the warmth of our central heating and the security of our double glazing, open our eyes to the world outside. Help us to see the world that you loved so much you sent your only Son. And help us to be your apostles, sent into the world to announce - in word and deed - the Good News of your one and only Son.
Send us into the world outside
.
