A year of intercessions
Our minister, Simon Perry, has written a
series of intercessions for use during the church year.
True Security
Lord God of hosts, our shield and our deliverer.
Forgive us our desire for security, for hiding behind doors
that shut you out along with the rest of the world.
We pray for our world and its desire for
security.
For those who are lonely or forgotten, who feel excluded by
the security of others.
May they know your peace.
We pray for those we know who are ill, who
have been through difficult experiences because of their health,
and those in our world who cannot get the medical treatment
they so desperately need. May they know your peace.
We pray for those in our world responsible
for enormous political and economic decisions that affect
the lives of the powerless, that war would truly become a
last resort, and that they may desire and know your peace.
We pray for Christians who have abandoned
security, and who face danger and persecution because of their
faith. Forgive us when we make persecution a romantic ideal,
instead of a horrific reality. May persecuted Christians be
filled with hope, and peace, and endurance, and may your new
life work powerfully through them, that they might draw attention
to you, the God of true peace.
We thank you that in the end, locked
doors are no obstacle to you.
Free us from our desire for security, give us the courage
to abandon our security, so that we might find our true security
in you, our rock, our fortress, our defender.
