A year of intercessions
Our minister, Simon Perry, has written a
series of intercessions for use during the church year.
Future and Hope
Lord God, you know the plans you have for
us, to give us a future and a hope. And yet when we look at
so many in our world, their future seems to have been robbed
of hope.
Some children continue to work as slaves,
working on open mines, scratching a living from rubbish tips,
or having their bodies abused. Their future has been stolen
from them.
Some children carry in their hands the deadly
weapons of war, where they used to hold their toys. Violence
has become their way of life, and their future has been stolen
from them.
Some children have nothing to eat or drink.
Their limbs wither, their stomachs bloated, and their future
has been stolen from them.
But you, Lord God, have promised us a future
and a hope. And we pray that the forces of evil that fill
the future with despair will be challenged in our time, by
the Gospel of your Son.
May the good news of Jesus Christ,
flood into our world that justice might flow like rivers,
and righteousness like a never-failing stream.
May your people be agents of hope in a world of despair.
May this church be a faithful reflection of your character.
May each of us learn to be true heralds of the life-giving,
life-changing Gospel of God.
May our daily lives, the choices we make, the habits we adopt,
the relationships we foster, all help to bring the future
and the hope that you have planned for the people of this
world.
