A year of intercessions
Our minister, Simon Perry, has written a
series of intercessions for use during the church year.
Easter Sunday
Lord Jesus, we thought that there is too
much evil in the world, and that justice was just a pious
dream.
But today you have risen from the dead.
Lord Jesus, we thought that governments and
big businesses run the world, carry all the power, hold all
the cards. We thought that the little people will always be
crushed by them.
But today, you have risen from the dead.
Lord Jesus, we thought that the kingdom of
God was being defeated by the forces of hunger and violence
and oppression. We thought that the suffering of this world
was too great for you to deal with. We thought that maybe
you were powerless to change our world.
But today, you have risen from the dead.
Lord Jesus, we thought that so many individuals
seem to reject you, that maybe you don’t exist outside
our imagination. We have sometimes struggled to see you at
work in daily life.
But today, you have risen from the dead.
Lord Jesus, we thought that our churches
were not very good at being your witnesses. We thought that
your kingdom depends on our action. And we thought that we
cannot be the people you call us to be.
But today, you have risen from the dead.
Lord Jesus, we thought that there is too
much evil in the world, and that justice was just a pious
dream.
But today you have risen from the dead.
Lord Jesus, risen from the dead, cause
your church to rise and to radiate the new life that is our
world’s true hope.
