Andrea Kvackova
Andrea joins the staff at Bloomsbury
as Pastoral & Community in August 2009 having already
served as a Deacon.
When did you first come to Bloomsbury,
and why?
I first came to Bloomsbury sometime in December
2006, which was shortly after I arrived in UK. I was randomly
searching the web for Baptist churches in London and google
came up with Bloomsbury as the first church on the list. I
never got any further, I'm afraid...
What do you admire and enjoy most about the church?
I admire the church's ability to create a
welcoming and accommodating environment for ALL types of people
from every kind of background and every walk of life. Somehow
one doesn't feel any pressure to be a certain kind of person,
to look, think or believe in a certain way in order to be
able to join in worship. I definitely have a sense of freedom
to meet with God regardless of any categories I might fall
into when I come to the services.
What one aspect do you especially love?
I love good preaching.
What do you hope for the future of Bloomsbury?
I hope the church sustains the open and inclusive
spirit it has and continues to realise its potential to the
fullest thanks to individuals who make up the community.
Do you have a memorable moment of an event at the
church?
I especially enjoyed this Lent's Sunday afternoon
series of sessions when we had an opportunity to meet with
our neighbours from Jewish, Hindu and Muslim communities and
discuss our faith. It made a deep impression on me as I have
never experienced a similar event in a Baptist church. It
clearly showed that engaging with people who live and worship
in a different way from us can enrich us in many ways. It
also made me realise several aspects of our identity and view
it from a different perspective.
