Brian Bowers
When did you first come to Bloomsbury, and why?
In 1957, when I came to London as a student. I joined The John Clifford Society where Baptist students met and where I met my wife.
What do you admire and enjoy most about the church?
The open and welcoming Christian community where people of all ages and from many parts of the world work and worship together and deepen their understanding of God. There is a place for everyone, and all can contribute to the work and worship of the church.
What one aspect do you especially love?
The fact that I can bring my mind to church. I am an engineer and an historian. As an engineer, I expect to apply my mind to understand as much as I can of whatever I am doing and that includes the worship and service of God. As an historian, I am conscious of the tradition of worship and service at Bloomsbury; I feel privileged to be part of it, and want to help it continue.
What do you hope for the future of Bloomsbury?
That it will continue to be a Christian presence in the heart of London, where all are welcome and the Gospel of Jesus Christ is made known and applied to the world in which we live.
Do you have a memorable moment or event at the church?
I remember with gratitude the way Bloomsbury took our learning-disabled son to its heart, focused at the dedication of the baby and later at his baptism, and has always found ways to include him.
