Colin Watson
When did you first come to Bloomsbury, and why?
Early in 1974. I had come to London from Tasmania for my first job, after graduating in engineering. I had tried another church nearer my bedsit, but it didn't suit. I looked up Baptist churches in the Yellow Pages and found Bloomsbury Baptist. It felt right and not too dissimilar to Hobart Baptist Tabernacle, my home church.
What do you admire and enjoy most about the church?
I admire its openness of attitude, the depth of the preaching, that hymns are still sung in four parts... and the sense of being in a community.
What one aspect do you especially love?
At Bloomsbury, I'm part of a large family, and have the opportunity to do things, from building repairs and improvements, to meeting people and sharing in their lives. It gives me the opportunity to live my Christian faith.
What do you hope for the future of Bloomsbury?
To have a future. To work with visitors to London as well as the local population, and to maintain high standards of preaching and music.
Do you have a memorable moment of an event at the church?
It's not possible to pick out just one! There's just an amazing sense of belonging, which has been there from the first day I came to the evening service. When I'm working overseas, I count the Sundays I'm away from Bloomsbury.
