Gwenda Walters
When did you first come to Bloomsbury, and why?
In 1970. I came because I found that I could no longer understand sermons in Welsh after a year working abroad, and I heard there was an excellent preacher in Bloomsbury... our former minister, Howard Williams.
What do you admire and enjoy most about the church?
I enjoy belonging to a family which is very varied, and is open, tolerant and questioning.
What one aspect do you especially love?
I like the fact that we serve lunch to local people who do not attend the services, but love to come for friendship, company and good food. We do not place conditions on them. l also like the fact that the 25 or so homeless men and women who have lunch with us each Sunday sit anywhere in the Friendship centre, in the middle of all the paying (or subsidised) guests.
What do you hope for the future of Bloomsbury?
I hope that we can grow and become better disciples of Christ.
