Seth
Stephens
When did you first come
to Bloomsbury, and why?
I first came to Bloomsbury in 1965 and stayed because of Howard
Williams’ preaching. I had been working with the Baptist
Missionary Society in Sri Lanka – Ceylon as it then was
– and returned to England, as a teacher and minister of
two Baptist churches in Essex. I was student chaplain of the
John Clifford Society. Since the mid-eighties my interest in
Eastern Europe has led to many visits, the opportunity to take
medical supplies from Bloomsbury and to develop close relationships
with Baptist churches in Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic
and Russia.
What one aspect do you especially
love?
I especially love the worship at Bloomsbury.
What do you hope for the future of
Bloomsbury?
For the future of the church I would like to see an interest
in the needs of the people around the church.
Do you have a memorable moment
of an event at the church?
I have a special memory of the day the students took me to
a demonstration against the Vietnam War.
