DAWN COLE-SAVIDGE

Communities Minister

When did you first come to Bloomsbury, and why?

I first came to Bloomsbury Central in the first half of 2013 whilst I was exploring a call to work in the local area of Soho. It was merely a courtesy call to the local Baptist church in the area as I might be working on their doorstep. At the time I felt like it would be a great place to be a part of.

What do you admire and enjoy most about the church?

What I love and admire most is the church's heart to impact those around it who are hurt and lost, the same heart that lead to create the ministerial post  that I hold. This same heart compels our members to travel in from all over London to be a part of this community.

What one aspect do you especially love?

How this church truly is an odd group of people…truly. That would NEVER be in the same room as each other if it weren’t for their community commitment to God and the work of God in their community. People don't come here for convienience they come because they believe in what this church is and stands for, you don't end up in Bloomsury Central by default.

What do you hope for the future of Bloomsbury?

That together we will enable more opportunities to impact the people around us and be a part of the bigger story of Gods Love. That we will be creative with the gifts, resources and people we have.

Do you have a memorable moment of an event at the church?

I believe I will always remember and be moved by the memory of our 'Soho Gathering' Maundy Thursday. The Gathering (the ministry that first brought me to he steps of Bloomsbury in 2013) invited the members of the church to come and share communion with us in a gay bar in Soho. Around 15 of the older end of the congregation came to the upper room, of a very noisy pub on a bank holiday evening to share bread, wine and mozerella sticks, and join in shouting inclusive litergy over loud club music. I cannot think of another church congregation that would be willing to do that.
