A powerful new public art installation is unveiled on the façade of Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church, confronting the scale of London’s homelessness crisis.
Created by internationally recognised artist Endless, the installation features a life-size mural of a person experiencing homelessness, enclosed within a real sleeping bag. The bag is emblazoned with the latest statistics, bringing stark visibility to the human impact behind the numbers.
Endless has previously collaborated with Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church on a project, having first connected with the Minister of the church via Instagram. This personal connection helped inspire this impactful initiative, merging artistic expression with social action.
According to Shelter UK, over 210,000 Londoners are estimated to be homeless, including families in temporary accommodation, hostels, and sofa surfing. The installation highlights the urgent need for action as Sadiq Khan faces renewed pressure to address rough sleeping and housing insecurity across the capital.
Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church runs a Night Shelter programme in partnership with C4WS Homeless Project and Metropolitan Community Church for North London, offering evening meals, safe overnight accommodation, breakfast, companionship, and wrap-around support including housing and benefits advice. The shelter has also helped individuals transition off the streets into longer-term accommodation. The church also works with Citizens UK to campaign for systemic solutions such as fair pay and affordable housing.
